How to Use

The Correct Order for Argan Oil and Sunscreen — and Why It Matters

Chemical SPF actives work by forming a thin, even film on the surface of skin. That film absorbs UV radiation and converts it to heat. For the film to work properly, it needs to be the outermost layer — applied after everything else has absorbed.

Oils applied over sunscreen dilute that film. The SPF active spreads unevenly, coverage drops, and the rated protection number no longer applies.

The correct sequence

  • Cleanse and pat skin dry — slightly damp is fine
  • Apply argan oil: 2 to 3 drops warmed between fingertips, pressed into skin
  • Wait 10 to 15 minutes for full absorption
  • Apply sunscreen as the final step

The wait matters. Argan oil absorbs quickly — within 10 minutes on clean, slightly damp skin it has penetrated the outer skin layer and is no longer sitting on the surface. At that point, sunscreen applies cleanly over it without disrupting coverage.

What goes wrong when the order is reversed

Applying sunscreen first, then oil on top, dilutes the SPF film. The result is uneven protection — some areas covered well, others not. There is no way to see this with the naked eye, which is why the mistake is easy to repeat without noticing.

Mixing both products in your palm before applying is equally problematic. SPF actives are formulated to work at specific concentrations; diluting them before they hit skin reduces effectiveness.

The simpler option

Bouyaik's Argan Oil + SPF 50 formula combines both into a single step. The argan oil is the base; the SPF active is carried within it. There is no layering protocol to follow because the products are already integrated at the formulation stage.

For a two-product morning routine: apply Argan Oil + SPF 50 directly to clean skin 15 to 20 minutes before going outside. For evening use or for hair and nails, use Pure Argan Oil on its own — no SPF needed when UV exposure is not a factor.

Oil first. Wait. Then SPF. Or skip the wait entirely with a formula that already does both.
